Performance Management: Your school should have long since set up its policy. If in doubt about what is happening ask your Head and school rep first then us!

Every school now has a performance management policy in place. The annual cycle should be running smoothly and involve you in reviewing and setting targets (up to three) with your line manager and being observed. Most policies will have a limit of up to 3 hours of observation in total for any purpose. Your school’s policy will also say something about “drop-ins and/or learning walks”. Your performance management should include details of your training needs and successful completion of a cycle should enable pay progression where it is available.

Pay progression should be automatic on successful completion of performance management and should not involve detailed application processes though you may have to request progression – check your school policy or ask your school rep.

Here is the NUT version of the policy with the important safeguards highlighted that should be included. If you cannot persuade your school to adopt our policy as it stands then fight to get all the highlighted passages included.
